and i just love the way the blood has dried in the way it would have fallen down his body on the cross, i think that’s just. this carving is incredibly evocative. it suffers the same problem of a lot of pietas (that you cant see from this close) of christ being disproportionately shaped because of the problem of him needing to be feasibly upheld by mary and needing to fit in mary’s lap while still falling/draping gracefully so his legs seem to have been carved in more of a cramped area and dont totally make sense anatomically which only makes me love it more. the more strange christ looks the better
