one thing that saddens me is the way in which a lot of women who don’t shave (their legs, armpits, bikini lines, etc.) will apologetically say that they’re “too lazy” to do so… as if not wanting to spend enormous amounts of time, energy, & money and to endure physical discomfort and pain for the sake of enriching razor companies can be described as “laziness.” or as if we can take it for granted that hairlessness is an aesthetic ideal that these women should aspire to & the only thing holding them back from achieving it is being unwilling to expend the effort. I don’t think that most of these women even necessarily believe that, but I do think that it’s a reflexive way of making their unwillingness to comply with such an intrusive beauty standard legible to people within the framework of patriarchal thinking. as if they have to make it legible or apologise for it at all!
